Artist's Description
Mission San Xavier del Bac is a historic Spanish Catholic mission located about 10 miles (16 km) south of downtown Tucson, Arizona, on the Tohono O'odham San Xavier Indian Reservation. The mission was founded in 1692 by the Jesuit missionary Eusebio Francisco Kino. The original location was vulnerable to Apache attacks who finally destroyed it in about 1770. It was rebuilt at a new location about two miles away mainly with native labor working from 1783-1797. San Xavier is still actively served by Franciscans, and still serves the Native community by which it was built.
About Tim Hightower
I express myself through digital art and photography. Some photographs are "straight from the lens", while others are subjected to "creative expressionism." Many times the art will take a life of its own, seldom ending up looking like the original idea. "I drifted into photography like one drifts into prostitution. First, I did it to please myself; then I did it to please my friends; and eventually, I did it for money. - Philippe Halsman" All images © Tim Hightower. All rights reserved.
